I was at O’hare airport for about 24 hours. Me, Kev Hsu, and Chris Chen spent $41 each to take an earlier bus to O’hare at 3 in the morning on Friday. We got there around 7am. Well, we were at the airport, but we weren’t at our terminals because our bus was broken down. It took much longer before we actually made it to our respective terminals. Of the three of us, only Kev caught a standby. Chris is actually still at O’hare, in a hotel (stranded till Monday). I got unlucky as #4 on a standby list…in which of course there were 3 empty seats to be had. Then the 7:30pm flight I had got delayed to 6:45 in the morning. It’s there I met Jay and Steve (Edison dudes) who had apparently stayed up ALL night hogging a wall jack to keep their gear charged. Which is funny. But not healthy. Yeah.

Oh right and I spent like $25 for that much worth of airport McDonald’s. Not healthy.

Anyway, between being stranded, flying, and taking NJ Transit home, I watched 2 1/2 seasons of the Office (from the beginning), read a little from Hackers and Painters again (I finished the book once already but was rereading because it was the only “real” book I had with me..I also had the quickstart Python guide but it’s really dry and my battery is reserved for watching shows only so no practical trying to “build” something), and planned what I would use my break for.

I’m going to do some heavy-duty learning while I’m on break. I am going to keep up with reading in the CouchDB book, and practice drawing. I need to get good enough at drawing to make professional graphics. I also need to learn to vector, which I plan to do in the first week of second semester (since it’s just syllabuses at that point..mostly). I’m going to figure out what I’m going to do as a side project, to keep my Ruby brain working hard and getting smarter.

I also emailed my boss and let him know that I wouldn’t have time to work next semester. Turns out, if I a want a 3.5 for the year, I need a 3.7 at least, next semester (I think I have a 3.3 this semester…if not worse…it all depends on two finals — gosh the only A I have is in CS, wtf). I’m going for four-oh, of course. I’ve finally learned that I don’t have to aim for mediocre (haha something I’ve been doing all my life in an effort to maximize enjoyment, which ends up being sort of pointless given the small amount of time I spend sleeping).

I’m also going to start exercising again, after having had my consistency broken by the two finals weeks. I need to run with David. He’s getting faster than me. Not good for an older brother who wants complete supremacy. Grrr. Brother, you watch it!

I can’t wait for Esther to get back. And Andrew! He’s back Tuesday. I need to get him a gift. I’m not really giving anyone gifts this year except family and andrew and kev. I did send something interesting to lehsah but it’s not really a gift in that I think I end up benefiting more than she actually does… I should get her another gift actually because now that I think about it that one wasn’t very thoughtful. I’m too impulsive and have cravings for certain foods sometimes. *cough* I need to get all of them cards though. Tomorrow, hopefully.

First semester of college was really good for learning. Now that I have the hang of it, it’s time to nail this thing. Kick in the the face! 4.0 for the rest of my life! Hopefully!

CS173 is going to own me, I can feel it.
