Days have been going well. Small group this week was a really great success — I’m really happy with how it went. Done with CS232 MP, CS225 MP 2.1 has been done, physics homework is done for the week, all that remains is a bit of physics studying, and mathematica. I’m pretty glad. This weekend will be MP 2.2 in CS225, as well as CS232 MP 3, and physics homework 3.

Moving forward.

MIPS is so annoying. My program looks correct but it keeps complaining that the labels are incorrect, when I know there is nothing wrong with them.

Physics lecture, mathematica, lunch with Trav, spending the rest of today doing Physics and getting caught up.

Film

Used up all the remaining film from home — didn’t develop a single roll. The one good roll I shot was lost somewhere when I put everything in storage. The other three rolls were terribly shot and I didn’t find it worth my $8 to develop any of them. They are also lost right now though, so haha. I ordered a pack of this Fujifilm on account of good reviews — hopefully my SLR is going to get some good use this year.

Peaceful Sunday

Yesterday was a very nice Sunday. Woke up for church, ate brunch with PARIV (Euny came to TCBC today!) and headed back to “do some homework” (play smash with KJ and Mike Flores, watch burn notice). Had dinner with Nadine — read from Romans together and talked about it. I think I can do this. I need to be reading with more people more often.

Personal reading has gone a bit wild — I went from a systematic reading of Ephesians to jumping all over the place based on…not really sure what. Yesterday I read from Peter because it was what was preached during the sermon (which was good and more in line with the gospel than the last Sunday, where the pastor interpreted the word “foreknowledge” in a way that horrified me).

Homework is not coming along quite well. I can’t find the motivation to *want* to code in assembly. It’s so ugly and crappy. It does teach me to be less wasteful with my code though — double MPs every week are really making me use my programming muscle. It’s just that now I haven’t been coding “for fun” for a while and it’s making me sad. I should get on writing that Yahoo hack day project with Karan. Hrm.

Today’s Labor day, so no class. I’m gonna eat lunch in Ikenberry with KJ and whoever else. Dinner will probably be with Chaitan/KP/Charlie/friends.

Hardware, it’s all in the hardware

Homework left for the next 7 days: Mathematica, Physics, CS225, CS232 in that order. Oh wait, also some business agenda thing. That should take me all of 10 minutes. This weekend I want to get all of my homework done for the week, so that I can just chill during the week, learn stuff and work out (I haven’t worked out since my 24 hour fitness expired mid-august — gotta call up Kev or someone).

I don’t think I’ll stop raving about how great 8gb of ram on a MBP is. At least, after you’ve had 2gb for a while, you get 8 and open htop and think, “man this is AWESOME!”

It’s such a pleasure seeing the mem bar go from 100% to about 25%.

The only things left bugging me are
1) Speakers — my audio controller broke recently — it’s unable to accept input from anything. So all I’ve got is the main subwoofer, and even that’s spotty. The driver is fine but it has nothing to plug into.
2) SSD. SSD. SSD. OMG. SSD. The laptop I got from Liferay is AWESOME. Under 10 second boot for Ubuntu, and everything opens lightning fast. The same SSD costs $400 if I want it in my MBP though. It’s such a pain. I don’t have $400 to just throw around.

Estimated Time: 5 hours. Just estimating up in case I am not as good at MIPS assembly as I might think.

Estimated time: 5 Hours. I’m overestimating my skills here.

Between today and tomorrow, I plan to finish the prelecture/preflight and MP. I also plan to do some of the math homework, around 3 hours worth.

Ambitious, I know.
