Brian Crain has soothed more than one angsty 5am moment in front of my code.
Pokemon!
Last night’s talk at LG was something to do with Magikarp and the wall was decorated with a gigantic Pokeball. Well. I have it now.
Supercool, right? Yeah. I am really enjoying this camera. It’s going to make for so many more (and higher-quality) photos from now on! If I get around to using video mode maybe there’ll be some movement+sound to go with everything too.
This weekend is kind of a bummer / good. It’s a bummer because I didn’t get to do my CS440 MP which is worth a lot of points — I went to LG instead, but it’s good because I finished my CS421 MP by working all of today. I’m currently trying to speed-learn randomized algorithms because I fell asleep all during lecture this week for 473 (and every other class but that’s besides the point). Spring break lies only 6 days away. It’s not going to be much of a break thanks to studying and homework. But it’ll be home. New Jersey, yes. But home.
God people hate my home so much. Haha.
Kevin’s coming too so that should be fun(ish). I’m kind of upset I have so much work to do over break. It’s cool though. I’m a tough cookie. Nothing I can’t handle.
Come at me, bro.
Stupid school

Listening to Cage the Elephant does bring back some good summer memories though. Welcome solace.
New Camera (and rage)
My first legit digital camera! It’s not an SLR but it’s a nice compact which I got superonsale after reading some decent reviews. It has a Leica 24mm wide lens and some pretty nice features. Plus it’s got a horseshoe so that I can add a pretty unnecessary digital viewfinder. Oh and the flash pops out with a switch. Kinda frickin’ sweet. I’m feelin’ all kinds of hipster vibes with this camera (minus the fact that it’s a newer Panasonic brand so it’s not exactly vintage, and again it’s an el-cheapo compact and not some crazy SLR like them stupid hipsters drool over).
At any rate. I’m pretty frackin’ excited.
Also stressed.
CS440 can’t be dropped. I’m not even taking it credit/no credit I don’t think. I think I’m just going to take the class like it’s my job and do my best and suffer through the rest of this semester like Ghandi suffered in order to protest…well, I’m protesting school-rape. School is a rapist. That is my most base emotion right now.
List of things left to do starting today:
1. CS440 Hw2 (try to get some partial credit for the MP)
2. CS421 MP7 yay compiler stuff
3. CS473 Homework 6 yay randomized algorithms and minimal spanning trees
4. CS357 Quiz and learn-all-the-things session yay for not being in class for two weeks because of other classes sucking so hard
5. CS210 Presentation yay time consuming bullbarnacles
6. CS440 HW3 / learn wtf has been going on in class for 2 weeks. yay bayesian networks
And study all spring break, despite the fact that Kevin is coming over! Yay for terrible timing! I’m pissed on so many levels because of this. At myself for not thinking that spring break would be like this. And at everything/everyone else for mostly irrational reasons that are mostly my fault. Uhgh.
This week has been absolutely moronic. I haven’t had a meal in the dining hall. I consumed a 14″ pizza and 10 wings from One World THREE DAYS IN A ROW. Coincidentally I slept no more than 3 hours each of those nights. On Tuesday night we purchased some pasta and sauce and veggies and made dinner at KP’s. AT 1 IN THE MORNING. AND IT WAS DINNER. Oh and get this, for three days including that night MY ONLY MEAL EACH DAY WAS DINNER.
I handed in my CS440 homework today. But…only HALF OF IT. AND 3 DAYS LATE.
I’m seriously coping with my sanity at the moment. I’m typing in capital letters. What the fuck is that shit.
Wolf Fence Debugging
“There’s one wolf in Alaska, how do you find it? First build a fence down the middle of the state, wait for the wolf to howl, determine which side of the fence it is on. Repeat process on that side only, until you get to the point where you can see the wolf). In other words; put in a few “print” statements until you find the statement that is failing (then maybe work backwords from the “tracks” to find out where the wolf/bug comes from).”
So many days of nothingness

This will be the first night I sleep in Saunders for some length of time near 2 weeks. I spent the previous two weeks couchsurfing / floorsurfing (if that’s a thing) in Siebel and in my friends’ apartments. I started carrying around a washcloth + shampoo + toothbrush + toothpaste and I’d stop in shortly to change clothes in the dorm every so often. It’s been a long journey.
I spent maybe half a week or more at Kev Hsu’s apartment. Slept, watched him play Poke’mon online, attempted to watch several movies but fell asleep due to exhaustion each time, oh and Lehsah brought a Zingermans reuben back from Mich for me
oh and we made breakfast once which was delicious. I cleaned up their apartment once but it got messy again. I’ll probably end up cleaning it again at some point. It’s strangely relaxing. I need to do chores.
I spent a night at Onur’s yesterday. Their apartment is warm.
I spent both Tuesday and Thursday last week sleeping during 2/4 of my lectures. That’s 3 hours a day. Perfect. Except for the part where people complain about slight snoring every so often. I’ve made a point of sleeping in empty rows now. No complaints.
I spent many good long nights at Grainger alone, working through practice exams or problem sets or whatever. It’s been harrowing. I’ve also spent two nights where me and Onur sat until late whiteboarding in Siebel, trying to solve CS473 homework.
Two nights, I ordered a large pizza and wings and ate 3/4 of it each time, finishing the rest for breakfast.
This is why I’m dropping CS440. It’s 20 hours of work every 2 weeks + 3 hours of lecture in an inconvenient time that’s just not worth it. I’m looking to either pick up an honors credit or do something, but I’m done with 440.
At some point last week, a nice highlight was Black Dog with KP/Charlie/Jason. It’s been some time since I’ve hung out with Jason or Charlie. And Black Dog never disappoints.
CS357 I scored a 72%. CS473 grades aren’t out yet but I’m a bit frightened. I have a B in CS421. Grades are looking okay. I can maintain this. CS440 I got a 76 or something, but dropping it so whatevs.
- Making the CS357 cheatsheet was an intense ordeal.
- This is what my view from Grainger at 5am looked like.
- Good thing there are rocking chairs. And good thing I had Dr. Pepper.
- I made french toast and bacon with Lehsah for us and Kev :D
- Breakfast was still warm and giving off steam. So yummy.
- Me and Lehsah ate 9 eggs and a lot of green onion...Kev doesn't like straight-up eggs.
- I snuck into the house when Kev and Lehsah were sleeping and found/ate the reuben like a ninja while chillin with Kang, who also had the munchies something fierce and ate all the bagel chips / cookies that I brought
- This kitchen is no longer this clean.
- Makin bacon. Yum. Yum yum.
